Having a fair amount of money to throw at the game, Katherine heavily customized the randomized avatar she was given to more accurately reflect her real self. The virtual avatar shares the same short height that she has at only 5’1”, and as a member of one of the lightweight races her avatar is also lean and slender. This makes her have overall a rather unimposing figure compared to some of the larger and stronger races. Fleur has fair white skin and long hair which she lightened from the typical yellow of the Slyph’s to be a more natural blonde. A pair of large bangs frames her face to either side while smaller bangs hang over her forehead and partially cover her eyes. The back of her hair is longer, reaching down to about the middle of her back, and is tied into a single ponytail with a small piece of violet cloth. Though she chose the Slyph’s for their emphasis on speed and stealth she detested their obsession with green, and so her eyes are instead her favorite color, purple. Her insect-like wings are still a shade of forest green however.
Fleur’s default outfit is composed of a white long-sleeved uniform which covers the top half of her body with a skirt portion that extends to around the middle of her thighs. The neck portion of the uniform has a black button-down collar edged in red while the rim of her skirt is black. The cuffs are red with a single black band, and a pair of red stripes extends along the outside of each sleeve from the cuffs to the collar while a pair of red half circle designs adorn the outer edge of the skirt. A thin white belt with a black buckle wraps around her waist over the uniform, and she keeps whatever sword she is using sheathed and attached to the left side of the belt. Underneath the uniform Fleur also wears a blue button down shirt with a dark blue ribbon tied around the collar. On her feet the avatar wears a pair of black cuffed boots which extend to the middle of her shin, while a pair of white thigh-high socks with red edges and a single red stripe down the center lie underneath.

As previously mentioned, Katherine’s physical appearance is very similar to that of her avatar Fleur. They share the same height and skin tone and even the same blonde hair, with the exception that Katherine usually keeps her hair straight or even elaborately braided depending on the occasion, though this is mostly due to the pickiness of her father than personal preference. Katherine also does not have purple eyes, much to her sorrow, and instead her eyes are a pale blue. And of course real life Katherine is deprived of wings.
Physically, despite living quite a pampered lifestyle, Katherine’s physique is similar to that of her avatars. This is due to her rebelliously partaking in “boy” activities at a young age and consequently gaining a passion for several physical hobbies. The most important of these is her passion for the art of fencing, which not only has given her a somewhat athletic build, but also a familiarity in swordplay depending on the weapon in her hand. Other favored activities include horseback riding and falconry, though how important such skills in ALO will be is questionable. Otherwise Katherine has no other skills that would be particularly relevant to her avatar, unless mastering the perfect curtsey somehow equals unrivaled monster slaying abilities.

Positive Traits:
Negative Traits:
Different Traits:
- Individualistic: One of the biggest differences between Katherine in game and in real life is her fierce independence while playing ALO. Though having just started the game Katherine already favors a more solo playstyle, and she bitterly resents the thought of needing another’s help to reach her goals. She also has a rebellious tendency when it comes to authority of any kind and will practically do the opposite of anything someone tries to make her do.
- Idealistic: Stemming from her fascination with stories, Katherine is a very idealistic individual and a “dreamer”. Initially she yearned for a fantasy world which she could escape into, and now that she has one she optimistically believes that in the end anything is possible. This idealism can lead to naivety however, as she will stubbornly resist reality if it does not fit to her view of the world or the ideals she carries.
- Passionate: When something catches Katherine’s attention she has a tendency to throw herself entirely into it and become passionately involved. This includes her hobbies in real life such as fencing and horseback riding, but also in game in terms of completing quests or grinding out that extra bit of yrd. Not only does this make her dedicated to goals she sets herself, but can also make her loyal to a fault when it comes to commitments she makes to others.
- Curious: As previously mentioned Katherine always dreamed of a brand new world like those in her stories that she could join and explore, and as a result this gives her a very inquisitive nature when it comes to ALO. Thus, having just started the game, Katherine has unbridled wanderlust and is fully prepared to explore every nook and cranny of the fantasy world. This can sometimes lead her to rush into things and find herself in sticky situations, but the childish excitement Katherine gets over everything new encountered is enough to throw caution into the wind.
- Perfectionist: Adding to her already steadfast determination is the fact that Katherine can be quite the perfectionist. She strives to become the best in everything she does, whether it be a new hobby in real life or a new sword art in ALO. This gives her the drive to continually improve her skills, but it also means that Katherine tends to self-loathe and become hard on herself whenever she fails at a task, or, even worse, if she gets one-upped while with company. This harshness can apply to others as well, and the girl expects those around her to perform exactly to her expectations.
- Refined: Having grown up in a rich household and raised to be a “noble lady”, Katherine is quite refined when it comes to her mannerisms and speech. Alongside having perhaps an oddly extensive amount of knowledge of fine art, literature, and classical music for a nineteen year old, Katherine is highly critical of her appearance and fashion and speaks quite eloquently. At the same time the girl tends to lack knowledge when it comes to “commoner” things, and is about as streetwise as a blind elephant.
Negative Traits:
- Haughty: Not only does Katherine stick to the visage of a “noble lady”, but she expects to be treated as such. This makes the girl come off quite arrogant as she believes that “commoners”, i.e. basically the entire population of ALO, are gifted to be given the chance to be even around her. The girl also thinks highly of her abilities in the game despite being a new player, and will be more than ready to prove the superior skills of “noble blood”.
- Prideful: In such competitive situations Katherine does put her pride on the line however, and she has a lot of it. As the daughter of a wealthy French noble Katherine believes that she has both great authority and importance because of it, but also that she must uphold the integrity of that title. This means the girl has a tendency to become resentful or even outright hostile if someone damages her pride, whether intentionally or not, and will also become quite self-critical if she thinks she has stained the good Celeste name.
- Headstrong: Because of her fierce determination as well as her burning curiosity, Katherine is quite headstrong. She more often than not rushes into situations without thinking first as well as make decisions without contemplating the potential consequences. Her pride also means that Katherine views these decisions as commitments, and will strongly resist anyone who tries to suggest new ideas or change her opinion on a matter.
- Reserved: Alongside Katherine’s in-game independence is a reserved mindset. While being (begrudgingly) willing to converse with others from time to time she certainly has no expectations of making friends while playing the game, and will treat social situations more like a business meeting than a couple of kids playing a video game. She also views emotional outbursts as embarrassing and undignified, meaning that she tries to keep her emotions in check or even outright hidden, making her seem mistrustful or just downright cold.
- Blunt: If Katherine’s eloquent way of speaking gives rise to “flowery” speech, than that flower tends to be a rose with all thorns included. It isn’t that Katherine is malicious but simply that she will be honest when dealing with others, whether that honesty includes pointing out the nearest quest giver or calmly telling the other player their choice of hair color is nauseating. Most times she won’t even realize the impact of her words, having grown up in an isolated environment as an only child, but her perfectionism makes her very critical and chiding towards company.
- Impatient: Combining her headstrong nature with an arrogant mindset gives Katherine an incredibly short fuse when it comes to her level of patience. If she expects something from you she expects it done not only right but punctually, and no excuse is good enough for the girl if you’re even late but a minute. This can make Katherine seem quite demanding and only adds to the sometimes impossibly high standards she sets for others.
Different Traits:
- Meek: Most would be surprised, given her independence on ALO, to learn that in reality Katherine has a very meek personality. While she used to be more rebellious at a younger age, years of living under her father’s strict rule have made the girl compliant to his wishes out of fear of punishment and acceptance of her position in life. She still fervently fights against this part of her in game, but in her mind it’s the warrior Fleur who is strong and capable of fighting back, while Katherine is just “Daddy’s little girl” with no voice of protest left.
- Cynical: Another large difference is Katherine’s cynicism when it comes to the real world. Her curiosity and wonder towards ALO are boundless, and in the fantasy world she can come off as rather optimistic and sometimes even naïve. However, ALO is just that, a fantasy world just like those of the stories she grew up on. To Katherine the real world is bleak and dismal in comparison, and as a result holds a certain pessimistic disdain for those moments she’s forced to log off and face it.
- Courteous: Years of learning how to be a “proper lady” have made Katherine quite courteous towards those she meets through her family. This is a far cry from the haughty and demanding nature her online persona Fleur shows, but unlike the other two traits listed above is more so an act than her true self. Katherine has learned over the years to put on the most convincing smile and humble charm to avoid the judgement of her father, while in reality she could not care less about the meaningless list of names she’s forced to entertain at home or on business trips.

LOCATION: Paris, France
Katherine Fleur Celeste was born in the countryside outside the glamorous city of Paris, France. She was born the only child to a rich aristocratic family. Her father, Reynaud Celeste, was CEO of a multinational conglomerate, Delos S.A., which dealt in energy and natural resources. At the same time the family’s wealth allowed her mother, Evelyne Celeste, to remain at home and manage the large estate they owned outside of Paris. The first few years of Katherine’s life were spent as any other, being a blissful and ignorant baby who was cared for predominantly by wet nurse’s employed by the family, though her mother did show love towards her newborn child. Katherine’s father, however, was often away from the estate managing the growing industry he led, and had little influence on Katherine’s initial upbringing.
As Katherine became older and began to learn and explore the estate she encountered her parents more frequently. Though the young Celeste had her own personal entourage of butlers and maids, as well as a personal tutor, her mother Evelyne took part in some of the girl’s education and upbringing. As a result a bond began to grow between them and Katherine would frequently follow her mother around the estate. The two of them would sometimes play games together and often walked through the lush gardens of the estate in the evenings, despite the insistence of the estate staff that “she leave the mistress alone”. Katherine’s father was a different story. As the little girl became more and more aware of as she grew older, Reynaud had desired a son to be the heir to the Celeste fortunes and become the next leader of Delos S.A. Katherine’s father was a firm believer of tradition, and did not believe that Katherine, as a girl, was capable of continuing on the prestigious Celeste family name. As a result, whenever Reynaud was at the estate and not managing his business, he would wholly ignore Katherine as if he still remained childless. Instead he looked towards Evelyne and the estate staff to deal with “his problem”. This of course hurt Katherine to see her father hold such disdain, but still young she was content enough spending time with her mother and running around the Celeste estate.
That was at least until she turned twelve years old. By this point Reynaud had grown to accept, not Katherine, but the situation he was in. The man still held hopes that his wife would be able to produce a proper heir to the family’s fortunes, but at the same time had no interest in letting his daughter run amok outside the aristocratic ideals he held. Up to this point Katherine had been largely allowed to do what her young heart wanted, at least short of endangering her well-being or the well-being of a maid’s paycheck. But that would all change now that Reynaud began to take a more active role in her upbringing. The estate staff were instructed to treat Katherine more like their mistress Evelyn and less like the friend Katherine had become to some of them. At the same time the girl’s private tutor was fired and a new, more traditional one, was hired instead. Thus Katherine’s education to become a “proper woman” began, and the young girl liked not one bit of it.
During the initial years of her childhood Katherine had become rather independent of the estate staff as a natural curiosity of the world compelled her to romp through the estate. Now that her father was attempting to stifle this and replace them with the noble and infinitely more timid nature he wanted, naturally, she resisted. Doing so was in fact initially quite easy for Katherine, as her father was still growing his burgeoning enterprise and spent more days away from the estate than in it. Evelyn for her part, out of love for her daughter, gave her a great deal of freedom and leeway despite her husband’s wishes. Because of this, when Katherine took interest in traditional “boy activities” to rebel against her father’s teachings, Evelyn actually went along with them. A horse was bought for Katherine who began to explore not just the estate but also the extensive land around it. Once skilled enough the young girl would even on occasion partake in hunting expeditions put on by her mother to entertain guests, and took a particular interest in falconry and became close to the bird she favored to use. But the one sport that Katherine took too above all else was fencing. Evelyn hired a renowned trainer for the young girl, and though at first the man expressed disinterest in teaching her, soon Katherine’s dedication and fiery passion for the activity won both his respect and delight. Over the years she trained the girl became quite good at the sport and also fit of body, but mostly fencing made her feel empowered and she became even more resentful over her belief that her father was attempting to quell her spirit.
As with her early childhood however, this would not last forever. Eventually Reynaud got word of his daughter’s actions, both from the frustrated tutor he hired as well as the surprise one of his business associates shared that he was out hunted by “Reynaud’s little girl”. This made the man furious, and as soon as able he returned to the estate to sort the situation out. The fencing instructor was fired within seconds of Reynaud entering the estate, and by that night both Katherine’s beloved horse and falcon were sold. The estate staff and even Evelyn were fiercely chided for their actions, and the first were threatened with unemployment if they dared go against his word again. However, despite her age, Katherine got the worst of it. If losing the animals she grew close to and even the good friend her instructor had become wasn’t enough, Reynaud chastised the girl and confined her to her room for weeks on end. The exception were when the girl attended the lessons of her tutor or to meet family guests, but she always did so under the supervision of her father and threats of severe punishments or even downright disownment if she didn’t follow his every word. At first the young Katherine resisted as she always had, but soon fear took over and then became acceptance as she resigned to the fate she had been given. Even Evelyn eventually accepted the situation, and though the two stayed close her mother’s opposition to Reynaud’s actions became just empty words of comfort towards Katherine that things would not be this way forever.
Alongside her growing resignation to her father’s wishes was a growing sense of pessimism towards the world. Gone was the gleeful face which Katherine once had running through the estate grounds, and even her fierce determination and passion for life for a time was crushed. The world became bleak and nothing but routine, and even after Reynaud permitted Katherine freedom throughout the estate she would often stay alone in her room whenever unneeded. Evelyn for her part noticed this and began to worry greatly for the health of her daughter and tried many things to win back her daughter’s enthusiasm. Only one thing held, and that was books. Katherine had never been very studious during her active childhood, and so simply threw aside the first novel her mother handed her. Over time however she began to grow interested out of sheer boredom, and what developed was a love of the written word, and one novel become two and then seven and more. In particular Katherine fell in love with fiction novels and the fantasy worlds they would portray. These glamorous worlds stood in stark contrast to the bleak world she saw herself as living, and every new novel, every new adventure, would become a way for her to escape reality. She began to dream of her own fantasy world where she herself was the hero of the adventure, and many a night were spent dreaming of her many exploits and the wonders she would encounter.
The one thing Katherine did not know was that in time this fantasy world would become a reality. After she turned sixteen Katherine began to take a more active role in the doings of the Celeste family. No longer would she need to simply smile and wave at family guests but would now have to entertain them the “proper noble way”, more so out of Reynaud’s desire to showcase his daughter than an actual need for her involvement. This eventually culminated into Katherine leaving with her father on a business trip to meet some important clients, shortly after she turned nineteen. Reynaud was interested in exploiting the energy need of Japan to great profit, and wanted to use his daughter to seal the deal as the businessman he was dealing with had one of his own. And so Katherine boarded the family’s private jet and flew to the country alongside her father, her disdain for having to be in her father’s company smothering any excitement she might have held. The visit itself was rather short, and though ultimately successful for her father Katherine was mostly confined to formal meetings and their hotel room. It was on one limousine ride though that the girl spotted an advertisement for something she had never heard of before but which instantly captivated her, the brand new world of ALfheim Online. As soon as Katherine had returned to France she began to research the game, and as she learned more the same unbridled excitement she once had as a child began to return. The virtual world seemed like everything she had ever dreamed of in her books, and her ideal world suddenly became a possible reality.
Using her wealth and a great deal of persuasion, Katherine eventually managed to order both the game and the AmuSphere and smuggle them into her room. For a time the girl hesitated out of fear of what her father would do if he found out, but her eagerness won out in the end and the girl made her first foray into the virtual realm. At first she was drawn towards the Imp race for being represented by her favorite color purple, but in the end it was the Sylph race that she picked, their preference for speed and wind based magic reminding her of the memories she held dear of riding quickly through the windswept grasslands around the Celeste estate. This first journey was quite short, amounting to nothing more than character creation and a few steps in the beginning city, but it was enough to win over the girl’s heart and dispel any fears she held. Her new avatar, which she named Fleur or “flower” after her middle name, became just that, a flower in the darkness that her life had become. Though she kept cautious about her father discovering her actions, the frequency with which the girl confined herself to her room previously made her activities free of suspicion and gave her plenty of time to play the game. Thus each new foray became longer and longer, and Katherine began to look forward to every new night and the adventures she, or rather Fleur, would find. The girl’s excitement however was not the only glee that returned to the estate. Though they did not know the reason for it, Evelyn and some of the estate staff noticed one new thing about Katherine shortly after returning, and that was the presence of her childhood smile once again.

Incredible.
That was the one word which repeated over and over in Fleur’s head as she stood atop a grassy knoll. In front of her at the foot of the hill was the edge of a great primeval forest, with rows upon rows of thick gnarled trees rising up from the ground and blanketing the land in a thick emerald canopy of leaves. Beyond the forest the sun had begun to dip beneath the horizon, and the sunset cast a warm orange glow so intense that it seemed as if the entire world was wreathed with fire. Fleur stayed still and silent for what seemed like ages as she became stunned with sheer wonder at the sight. It was only when a cool breeze flew over her and sent the sound of a million cascading leaves in her direction did the spell on Fleur break. The girl gave a wistful sigh, knowing in her heart that this was what she had longed for, and with a confident smile Fleur took a step forward, ready to begin her first real adventure.
Misjudging the step Fleur’s foot found nothing but empty air, while the rest of her body continued to move forward. With a shriek the girl tried to grab anything possible on the bare hill before tumbling down the length of the slope. With a heavy thud she landed at the edge of the forest in a jumbled heap, a tree trunk just inches from her wide eyes. Quickly regaining her composure Fleur jumped to her feet and scanned the area around her. Once she was satisfied that no other players had seen her…descend the hill, Fleur brushed the dirt and grass from her body while glaring at the hill behind her.
Completely convinced that it was some sick joke the game moderators chose to play on new players and in no way her fault, the girl turned once again to face the forest. Her grimace softened into a slim smile as she peered into the dim depths of the trees. Thoughts of what lay inside raced through her mind as a mixture of anticipation, eagerness, and a little fear filled her heart. But a deep breath and a firm grasp on the hilt of her sword were enough to dispel the latter. Sticking her tongue out at the hill one final time Fleur took the first, solidly placed, step of her first adventure in ALO and proceeded into the silent air of the forest. Soon the only thing that could be seen of the girl was the faint glow of her blonde hair, and the trail of leaves which floated down from the bunch caught in her ponytail.
