Jasper The Merchant

 Our story begins in Yggdrassil City.. 

Excuse me, are you Jasper The Merchant?

Since arriving in ALO, Jasper hadn't been doing anything of any particular interest. He'd gone and explored some of the starter areas, exchanged information with a few experienced salesmen, and found himself a suitable stomping ground within the reclamation area. After a week of getting himself adjusted to the exciting new realm, he found it necessary to establish roots in other territories; a positive mention every now and again never being a bad thing. As it was stated upon his first day, there were two mandatory beginner quests given to fresh players: "Start A Party" and "Preparing For A Feast". Taking his street smarts into account, the man decided upon not only taking one quest but two; figuring he'd need a party member for the second quest anyhow.

"Why, yes, my lady, yes I am"! Jasper - as if moving in a blur - wrapped his arms around the female NPC "So, dearie, what can I do for you?!" His free hand reached up towards the sun "What a beautiful day isn't it? The perfect day to buy and sell your wears with ME, Jasper The Merchant"! The lady was shy but not patient. She tried her best to get her words out, knowing this man's energy would soon begin to annoy her "U-uhm.. I'm the one who hi-" yet another abrupt interrupt by the ever-so-classy Jasper "A little shy are we? Hey, it's not like I don't understand ya! Let's see if we can't get you some gear to protect that" he looked her body up and down "fragile body of yours". She tried yet again to get his attention "N-No! I'm the NP-" The man knew no bounds, now pretending to swing a bat "Or maybe you need yourself a MIGHTY WEAPON to take down those perilous foes of yours, eh?" She began to grow frustrated "I'm trying to tell you that i'm th-" He leaned in, preparing to whisper "Well no matter what your needs may be-" She'd finally had enough "NO! I AM THE NPC! I'M HERE TO GIVE YOU YOUR QUEST"!

[ One calming down session later ! ]

The NPC fixed her ruffled skirt, coughing a few times to return to the shy pitch it once was as she spoke in her soft tone; simply wanting to be done with this man and his antics. "Now then, there is a feast to be had a few days from now and the chef is running low on meat for the main dish." she glared at him "Your task is to go to the Plains Area and collect 10 pieces of FRENZY BOAR MEAT. Bring it back to me once you've completed your mission". Jasper - now somewhat intimated by this woman - rose his hand ever-so-slightly, speaking in much more hushed tone than before "The Plains Area? Isn't that Cait Sith territory?" The NPC nodded as within a split second his arm was around her yet again, Jasper letting out a loud and hearty laugh before she'd swat him away for good "HAHA, that's absolutely great news"! Just as predicted, she pushed him from her; the man losing his balance only for a moment, his posture unaffected. "With this knowledge, I shall further my roots and gain strong bonds with every race I can! CAIT SITH HERE I COME"!

...FIVE MINUTES LATER!!

"I'm so booooooored"!!!

The man sat alone at the entrance of The Plains, completely forgetting the main requirement to partake in the quest; a partner. "Where am I going to find a partner at this rate? Most all of the fresh starts have passed this quest by now.." he sighed "This is a total bummer. Where am I going to find a party member this late in the game"?

Was I right, Was I wrong, Was I weak, Was I strong. All of this goes through my head, but when I lose my mind trying to leave it behind, all the stars somehow align. I am in a dream, but its reality. I can barely breathe…

Mio grinned as she shot an ice arrow at a kid who had just tried to stab her in the back. She clicked her tongue in pure amusement as she tilted her head and watched the terrified boy, who had arrows trapping him to the tree. She walked forward and tilted her head, jutting her bottom lip out. “That was not nice at all Mister, considering if you had just asked, I would have helped.” She stated, crossing her arms over her chest. She waved her wand back as the ice arrows disintegrated and smiled sweetly. “Now please run along before I actually kill you and you get deducted points.” She said sweetly, the boy nodding as he ran off immediately.

She sighed a bit and shook her head. Sometimes it was so disappointing to see other members trying to kill others. She herself was still getting used to that part, considering situations that had her unable to die in a virtual reality game. Now, where was she again? She looked around and licked her lips. She was near the plains, that much she new. Having recently joined the game, she had been taking a journey around the entire map to get used to her surroundings. That meant that she had completed no quests, but she had more skills then the average person, due to being a veteran. She swiped her hand to the right as her wand disappeared and her main menu screen was pulled up, staring at it as she read the quest one last time. She couldn’t help but giggled a bit at the remembrance of when the girl gave it to her, seeming shy and a little frazzled.

Next, she glanced at the map. She was two minutes from the plains, and would make an easy flight, so that was what she did. She lifted herself up into the air and flew east, near the Cait Sith area. Recently being attacked by one of the people from that territory, she decided to stick a bit higher, to avoid being seen by anyone else. In a matter of moments, she landed onto the ground with a soft thwump as she looked around. The boar quest would definitely be an easy one, but the matter was, as she just realized… She forgot a partner. She walked to the edge of the plains, turning back around as she looked around. There was no way there would be someone free around here, why is that? Because, a lot of beginners completed quests early on.

“Crapppp” She whined softly as she looked around, suddenly taking notice of a strange character…in a duck suit? She raised an eyebrow in curiosity as she sighed. He looked partner less as well, but then again, he might just be waiting for someone. But it couldn’t harm to at least try and ask him if he had a partner. She bit her lip as she slowly walked up behind him, poking him on the shoulder lightly as she tilted her head a bit. Her voice came out shy, but still confident as she asked softly,

“Excuse Me, Do you have a partner?” She said it bluntly, her voice shy as she fingered the strands of her light blue hair softly. She glanced down as she stayed behind him, waiting for the man’s reply. One thing she learned from Virtual Reality is that no one knows who you are in real life, so you could be whoever you wanted and make something of yourself then. So that’s what she did, always trying to be outgoing, but at first she was shy all the time. That’s just how it went. So here she stood, waiting for the reply of a stranger.

"Excuse me, do you have a partner"?

At first, the girl would be met with silence, but this was not because he'd been ignoring her--no, he was attempting so hard to contain his joy it caused him to stay still. He was sure she'd think him weird, what with his chicken head and all. He was sure that in some place there was a saying about wanting to stand out in a crowd, so he'd just go with it; not thinking to much of his apparel. "Do I have a partner?.." an aura of concentration emanated from his being, easily being mistaken for something much more malicious "Do I have a partner?!" The man got up, eyes glaring from under the mask as he placed his hands on her shoulder; gripping tightly. "Of course I don't"!

At this point in time, the girl probably thought to herself "Uhm, what?", but this was the way Jasper operated. His eccentric ways is definitely something she'd soon have to get used to; what with her being his new companion and all. Wrapping his arm around her, he extended his other arm and opened up his hand; trailing it across the sky like a shooting star. "The name's Jasper, m'lady, Jasper The Merchant!"As if moving in a blur, he now appeared in front of her, crouching down with both index fingers pointing in her direction; hands moving back and forth "You're in luck today, noble traveler. It's not often you get to team up with the one, the only, JASPER"! His position shifted, now pretending as if one foot had been placed on a rock; his right hand placed above his forehead as he gazed at the horizon "Do you see it, m'lady? Do you see opportunity? It's just beyond the horizon!" Straightening his posture, he began to check his "watch"; acting as if he'd been waiting for the bus "It's coming here any minute now.." he began to speak in raspy tone "You n'me, kid; we're gunna do big things together". Without moving from his current position, he folded his right hand over his left and extended forward; shaking the females hand whether she wanted to or not. "It appears we're going to be working together today, Frenzy Boars are no joke. Worry not, m'lady, I--The Fearless Merchant, will always be there to proo---aaaand you're a veteran"...

His body grew white, arms dropping down as an aura of disappointment enveloped his soul. "How could have been so foolish?" You'd think he felt bad for the way he treated the elder player, you'd be wrong "You must have some valuable items on you" He leaned in closely, his color returning to him "Got anything you'd like to sell or trade"?! At this time, not only was a friend request given, but a party request as well. "I can see it now, Ms. Mio! We're going to do GREAT things on this day"! What she hadn't known, was that during his odd little movements, he'd actually been reading up on her information as well; gaining as much as he could about his new companion for this quest. With everything now in line, Jasper prepared for the mission ahead; knowing that whatever would come his way, he was ready for it.
